The American Elections
Happy Monday to our CFC Family;
On this Remembrance Day, I would like to begin by honoring the brave men and women who sacrificed for our freedoms. Their courage and sacrifices have made it possible for us to live in a free nation, and we are deeply grateful for them.
This week, I’m sending you a special Pastoral Letter that may be a bit longer than normal but a topic of great importance that needs to be addressed: the U.S. elections that took place this past Tuesday.
While we may not be directly affected by U.S. politics, the policies of American leaders have far-reaching implications, especially when it comes to issues of faith, family, and freedom. I want to share why many believers, including myself, see President Donald Trump’s victory as a positive outcome, particularly when compared to the policies advocated by his opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris.
1. Protection of Religious Freedom
A significant reason many Christians worldwide supported President Trump is his strong commitment to protecting religious freedom. Trump worked to ensure that individuals and organizations could freely practice their faith, supported policies to defend churches and religious groups, and appointed judges who upheld religious liberties. His administration also maintained strong relationships with Christian leaders, granting them direct access to the White House to provide the President spiritual guidance and insight.
In contrast, Vice President Harris has supported policies like the Equality Act, which critics argue could infringe on religious freedoms by forcing faith-based organizations to adopt practices contrary to biblical teachings, such as endorsing same-sex marriage or gender identity laws.
2. Sanctity of Life
President Trump has been a staunch advocate for the sanctity of life, particularly through his pro-life policies. His administration appointed conservative judges who helped overturn Roe v. Wade and reduced federal funding for abortion services. For many believers, protecting the unborn is a deeply moral issue, and Trump’s policies aligned with that conviction.
In contrast, Vice President Harris has supported policies allowing taxpayer-funded abortions up to full term, which directly conflicts with the Christian belief that every human life is sacred.
3. Traditional Family Values
Trump’s policies encourage support for traditional family values, such as tax cuts and economic policies designed to strengthen families, and promoting school choice, giving parents more control over their children's education. Many Christians viewed these actions as beneficial to families and society.
President Trump also vows that he will punish doctors who provide “gender-affirming” care and promises to impliment guidlines for schools to “promote positive education about the nuclear family” and “the roles of mothers and fathers” as part of a wide-ranging set of policies to foster traditional family values.
Vice President Harris, on the other hand, has supported progressive policies on issues like marriage and gender, advocating for same-sex marriage and gender transition laws, which conflict with the biblical understanding of marriage and family.
4. Law and Order
Another reason many Christians supported Trump is his firm stance on law and order. He emphasized the importance of supporting law enforcement and ensuring safety in communities, especially during times of unrest. His administration took a strong stance against violence and lawlessness.
In contrast, Vice President Harris has supported policies like defunding the police, which many believe has weakened law enforcement and jeopardized public safety.
5. Moral Leadership
Some may argue that President Trump is too flawed to be used by God. But I ask: Has God not used flawed individuals throughout history to fulfill His purposes? Just as God used King David—a man after His own heart despite his many flaws—to lead Israel, He can also use someone like Donald Trump to carry out His plan.
God has also used pagan kings like Cyrus and Nebuchadnezzar to accomplish divine purposes. These examples remind us that God can use anyone, regardless of their past or flaws, to fulfill His will.
Trump has surrounded himself with morally strong leaders, including 80% of Evangelical Christians, whereas Kamala Harris is aligned with the Hollywood elite and political globalists whose values often conflict with biblical principles.
Conclusion
As arguably the most powerful nation in the world, the policies of American leaders impact global issues such as religious freedom, the sanctity of life, and traditional family values. Therefore, I believe that President Trump’s victory represents a positive step forward for those who hold to biblical values, particularly in these key areas.
Let us continue to pray for our neighbors in the U.S., for wisdom and peace in their leadership, knowing that how the U.S. goes morally and ethically will also influence Canada. As Trump and his cabinet prepare for his inauguration in January, I believe forces are at work trying to prevent him from taking office. While things may get darker in the months ahead, we must take heart and remember that God is on the move.
Romans 13:4: "For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer."
Question: As believers and citizens, what are some responsibilies
that we carry in regards to or government leaders?
Have a wonderful week and we’ll see you Sunday!!
